Meeks Technology Portfolio

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Harvest Co-Chief Investment Officer Paul Meeks, CFA, CAIA manages a portfolio of global technology stocks for clients. He has been a technology analyst or portfolio manager since 1992. He appears frequently in the media to “talk tech” including hosting his own weekly program “Tech Tune-Up with Paul Meeks” on Benzinga’s YouTube channel ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yhlzXkdTCI ).

This portfolio includes technology-driven names in the Communication Services (e.g., Meta Platforms (META), Alphabet (GOOGL), and Netflix (NFLX)), Consumer Discretionary (e.g., Amazon.com (AMZN) and Booking Holdings (BKNG)), and Technology sectors. These eligible stock candidates for the US portion of the portfolio include over 40% of the market capitalization of the S&P 500.

Meeks starts with a critical technology theme (e.g., artificial intelligence (AI)) and searches for established (80% because he believes that typically the “strong get stronger” in this sector) and emerging (20%) companies that embrace it. With some names he may ride the market’s momentum. For others he may be an opportunistic buyer of a relatively inexpensive, underappreciated stock. The portfolio owns 20-40 securities. Its core holdings may be supplemented by relevant sector exchange-traded funds and/or a cash buffer if no attractive individual stocks can be found.

This is a long-only, stock-picker’s fund. It does not trade in derivatives or buy stocks on margin. When Meeks’s forecast for technology stocks is poor he will 1) lower the beta (a risk measure) of the portfolio and/or 2) raise cash. Portfolio turnover should be expected to be as high as 100% although that may be less than the average technology mutual fund. Meeks and Harvest Portfolio Management offer this product as a separately managed account that replicates his technology stock model.
